5 Common Acne Myths

There are so many myths out there that it is hard to know what is true or not. Even despite a rise in public awareness about acne, many of the myths still persist. Here are just some of the top myths out there to help you understand whether or not they have any truth in them at all:

Myth 1 - is caused by diet.

Fact: Although it is always important for general health to follow a balanced diet, there is no proof that eating fatty foods and chocolates will cause or worsen acne. Sometimes certain foods can cause inflammation in the body and this can show in the skin but you will find that these are usually different symptoms to your problems.

Myth 2 - is caused by stress.

Fact: Stress cannot cause but it can make worse and having can be very stressful. The mere fact that you have will affect your mood, self confidence and the way you feel about yourself and this in itself can lead to more stress if not kept in check. It is probably truer that causes stress rather than stress causes acne.

Myth 3 - is caused by poor hygiene.

Fact: is not caused by dirt or surface oil and many sufferers are more particular about cleanliness than those who do not suffer with acne. If you believe this myth, and wash your skin hard and frequently, you can actually make your worse.

Myth 4 - Make up can make your worse.

Fact: is not caused by make up and can in fact increase your confidence  but making you feel better about your appearance. However, basic cleanliness is important to keep your skin bacteria free and this means making sure you wash any make up brushes etc. frequently.

Myth 5 - A tan will help to clear up acne.

Fact: There is no evidence that sunlight improves acne. Even though a tan may temporarily cover the redness of it will not help to clear it up. A tan can initially feel like it is clearing up your blemishes as it makes your skin feel drier but getting a tan will make your worse in the long run.

It's true that does affect how we look and our self-esteem but it is also important to remember that it does not pose a serious threat to our physical health. is a skin disorder caused by a combination of factors, including hormones and genetics and is treatable.
