Adult is, in simple terms, a clogging of the pores. To expand on this, it's when a follicle accumulates too much bacteria, dead skin cells or oil. The follicle and area surrounding become inflamed and becomes a pimple.
So how is this caused?
1. Menstruation
Adult in woman can often happen during her monthly cycles. A few days prior to the start of her period, the levels of progesterone begin to rise while estrogen decreases. This causes the sebaceous glands to create more oil which can lead to clogging of the pores.
2. Medication
It can be very common for some medications to cause acne. These include birth control pills, steroids, and some medications that affect your neurotransmitter levels.
3. Pressure or Friction
Adult can also be caused by something called mechanica. It's when there is consistent, pressure, rubbing, friction, sweating and heat applied to the skin. For instance, a tight fitting uniform, shoulder straps, a violin held under the chin, etc.
4. Genes
Adult may also be hereditary. Parents with can pass these genes onto their children.
5. Chemicals
Acne caused by chemicals is called choracne. It's a skin disorder that is caused by having exposure to chloracnegens which are in some industrial chemicals.
6. Pregnancy
Similar to menstruation, when women become pregnant, especially in the first trimester, they are more prone to getting adult due to the fluctuation in hormones.
7. Menopause
While it is not common, another hormonal transition is menopause, which can provide an opportunity of temporary adult acne.
8. Environmental Factors
Pollution and humidity can both contribute to adult acne. Whenever there are high levels of humidity and sweating, may be present.
9. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS, is an endocrine disorder in about 5% of women. While commonly misdiagnosed, the symptoms can be irregular or absent periods, weight problems and the onset of acne.
10. Detoxification
Finally, an important cause of adult is the need for the body to detoxify itself of wastes and toxins. While the body typically does this through the liver, kidneys and other organs, your body will also try to flush out toxins through the pores of your skin, resulting in acne. Water is a great natural detoxifier and will help flush out the toxins in your system.
