What Causes Acne And How To Get Rid Of It

There are many beliefs and theories as to what causes acne. Acne is a complex problem and the cause of acne seems to be a number of factors. It appears that acne is caused by many things that may include hormones, diet, skin cleansing and stress. Acne results from a disorder of the sebaceous gland which is found everywhere on the body except for the soles, palms, lower lip and a few other areas.

It is a bacteria called the ‘propioibacterium acnes’ that grows excessively in the skin of those with acne that causes acne. The question is how does this bacteria grow excessively and the answer may be that it is triggered by different things in different people. For some people simply using a proper cleanser and moisturizer can make the difference in reducing the growth of this bacteria. For others a change in diet may be necessary to help control the growth of this bacteria.

It is important to use a gentle cleanser that is rich in natural ingredients. Look for cleansers that have exfoliating properties in them such as micro scrubbers that will help to remove dead skin cells which can cause your pores to get clogged up and thus increase the growth rate of acne causing bacteria. In addition using a good moisturizer is important to keep the skin nourished and healthy. Sometimes diet may aggravate your acne condition. Many acne sufferers have reported that by eliminating high fat foods or junk foods have made a positive difference in their acne problem. Reduce the amounts of fast foods you eat or packaged or processed foods and instead look to eat more natural foods. It is also a good idea to eat lots of vegetables and fruits as these foods have many great health benefits including the possibility of reducing acne.

Stress has been shown in many studies to have several negative side effects and it may also be responsible for making acne worse. Try to reduce stress as much as possible from your life. Exercise has been proven to be a great way to reduce stress so be sure to take part in regular cardiovascular and strength training. Join a local gym or buy a good piece of fitness equipment so you can exercise at any time right from your house. Another alternative is to take up a sport like tennis, golf or basketball depending on your current level of fitness.

Getting a pet can also be an effective approach to stress reduction. Make sure though that you have the budget and time necessary to take care of a pet as it is almost like having a new family member otherwise the financial and time requirements may actually introduce more stress rather than reducing it. Learning yoga or meditation can also be effective at reducing stress so make it a point to learn it and do it regularly as there are many other health benefits too.
