While it may be considered a fairly simple process, it is very important that you carry out this twice daily routine properly if you want to have the best chance of beating acne. Following this advice can simplify the process of washing your face and possibly save you some money in the process. This is true regardless of whether you have acne or are trying to keep your face acne free.
Soap is engraved into our minds from an early age. We're told when we're young by our parents to scrub over and over to get squeaky clean. When we get to adolescence we tend to use even more soap in an attempt to combat acne and oily skin. Then finally when we get to adulthood we tend to carry on the same way even though the makeup of our skin has changed. Our skin and hormones change as we age.
There is a confusing amount of different types of soap out there. Each claiming to be the best new product to help you fight your Acne or oily skin. You can find rejuvenating soap, deodorized soap, super fatted soap, sandalwood soap, avocado, wintergreen, peppermint and vitamin E. The list goes on and on.
There are a host of different types of cleansers available today too. There are cleansers that exfoliate your skin as you wash. Some medicated soaps contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. People may report that their skin feels cleaner, but the truth is that these soaps often strip your skin of essential oils and dry them out completely. This is especially true if you are using a topical anti-acne medication.
It is also not a good idea to wash your face more than once in the morning and just before you go to bed. Twice a day is enough. Washing more often offers no additional benefit and also stops your skin from producing any oils. Remember the oil your skin lets out is also beneficial. If you have inflamed and red skin, washing too often will just worsen this condition.
It doesn't matter whether your skin is too oily, or you have acne or whatever your skin type is. It is always best to wash your face just twice a day. Don't believe all the adverts on TV or in magazines promising the best results. Those testimonials you see on TV where the person has perfect skin is a paid actor. He or she probably always had healthy looking skin or makeup applied before shooting.
While these may not be the most exciting soaps, they do work. If you have oily skin use Ivory Soap. If you have dry skin use Dove Soap. If you have allergic reactions to soap or have sensitive skin then use non soap cleansers. A couple examples are, Aquanil or Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleaner.
While it may seem silly to give directions here they are.
1. Using lukewarm water, wet the soap.
2. In a circular motion rub the soap into your skin with either a washcloth or your fingertips. Do this gently. Don't be tempted to use items like loofah's or brushes.
3. Rinse your face with lukewarm water until you have cleared your face of soap.
4. Use a soft cotton towel to dry your face. Please don't rub your face with the towel. It is much better to pat your face dry.
That's all you need to know about cleaning your face. Keep it simple!
